1976 secret apollo space mission to far side of moon

In 2007, videos appeared on You Tube that claimed to be images from secret Apollo XX mission to the far side of the Moon. Images include a well-preserved female astronaut recovered from a relic alien spacecraft estimated at one and a half billion years old. Ground Zero Live host Clyde Lewis discusses alleged mission with producer Olav Phillips, who finds it to be "an expensive one" - if a hoax. Phillips sees just enough credibility in story to make a good mystery or conspiracy! A 2007 UFO Data magazine article, "Apollo 20 Controversy," provides an excellent recap.

"Apollo 20 launched on August 16th, 1976, from Vandenberg Air Force base in California and carried a mixed American-Soviet crew. These were Mission Commander William Rutledge, Command Module Pilot, Leona Snyder, and Lunar Module Pilot, Aleksei Leonov..."

"... When they landed on the Moon, they saw a deserted and ruined city, ‘full of scrap’, as Rutledge put it. He and Leonov entered the derelict spaceship and also a triangular one nearby...The craft was pitted with craters and other damage. Inside, they found evidence of plant-life and ‘triangular rocks [that] emitted “tears” of a yellow liquid which has some special medical properties’...They also found alien bodies. The remains of small creatures, about 10 cm long, were found in glass tubes that ran the length of the ship and two ‘full-size’ aliens were found. Unbelievably, he claimed that one of them, a female, was still alive and returned to Earth!"

Luca Scantamburlo, a journalist, interviewed Commander Rutledge available on his website. Rutledge's last known residence in Rwanda suggests to Phillips a CIA operative. A caller to Lewis' program witnessed launch of a Saturn V rocket in the seventies from Vandenberg AFB. Saturn V rockets were used in the Apollo program. The present writer leans towards a disinfo campaign or a psyop, conceding to Phillips much effort invested in videos. It's a great mystery and still entertaining even if hoaxed!

darpa to award 100yr starship seed money on 11/11/11

Why not spend your free time designing interstellar spacecraft? Andreas Tziolas, director of Project Icarus, believes your hobby could help us get to the next star. DARPA plans to award "some organization roughly $500,000 in seed money to begin studying what it would take - organizationally, technically, sociologically and ethically - to send humans to another star, a challenge of such magnitude that the study alone could take a hundred years," according to the article, "Next stop Alpha Centauri," at CHINADAILY.com.cn .

"The awarding of that grant, on November 11 - 11/11/11 - is planned as the culmination of a yearlong Darpa-NASA effort called the 100-Year Starship Study, which will include a three-day public symposium in Orlando, Florida, starting on September 30 on the why's and how's of interstellar travel." The present writer would only ask readers why award grant on Nov. 11, 2011? This can't be worshipful occult number significance - only a coincidence!

retro-weekend drive-in: disney's 1955 'man in space'

Walt Disney helped sell American public on Space. Man in Space, first of a three-part series in the fifties, proved popular and possibly for its pyrotechnics and inclusion of a multitude of rocket firings! You'll like this film if you like fireworks! The V-2 rocket and WAC Corporal, two early successful rockets, are covered. "The first episode Man in Space originally aired March 9, 1955. Running at about 51 minutes, it was mostly narrated by actor Dick Tufield (who ironically would later be best known as the voice of the Robot on the TV series Lost in Space). Also joining in was [producer Ward] Kimball and such famed scientists as Dr. Willy Ley, Dr. Heinz Haber, and of course Dr. Wernher Von Braun. With a combination of documentary footage and animation, the show took a lighthearted look at rocket history, satellites, and what spacemen would have to face traveling in a rocket. Man in Space was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Documentary Short." A younger audience can get an idea of predominance of German scientists (Operation Paperclip) in the American space program by taking in this show. The present writer grew up with the strong association of a German accent with scientific acumen. Please take in show from a relatively innocent time when prospects of space seemed limitless.

project blue book: 1952 - 1969

What the heck were all the UFO sightings in the forties and fifties about? The US Air Force made three successive inquiries into sightings during the period.  Project Sign was the first formal inquiry, investigative work began on January 22, 1948. Gen. Nathan Twining initiated the project at Wright Patterson AFB, where all official public UFO investigations were based. The project was known to the public as "Project Saucer", Sign leaned in favor of the Extraterrestrial hypothesis. Wikipedia's Project Blue Book entry reports, "Sign's initial intelligence estimate (the so-called Estimate of the Situation) written in the late summer of 1948, concluded that the flying saucers were real craft, were not made by either the Russians or US, and were likely extraterrestrial in origin. This estimate was forwarded to the Pentagon, but subsequently ordered destroyed by Gen. Hoyt Vandenberg, USAF Chief of Staff, citing a lack of physical proof. Vandenberg subsequently dismantled Project Sign."

Project Grudge succeeded Project Sign in February, 1949. Captain Edward J. Ruppelt (pictured), who was the first head of Project Blue Book, referred to the Grudge Era as "dark ages" of early Air Force UFO investigations. "Everything was being evaluated on the premise that UFOs couldn't exist," according to Wikipedia's Grudge entry.

Project Blue Book, named after blue books used in university finals, succeeded Project Grudge once it was dissolved under pressure from Maj.General Charles P. Cabell. A comprehensive and well-written article at the Museum of Unnatural Mystery, "Project Blue Book: The UFOs Verses the Flying Saucers," describes Cabell's fury when he learned of Grudge's mandate to debunk UFOs, and specifically, when [Project Grudge] investigator Lt. Gerry Cummings told him, "...any UFO sighting examined by the project was taken as a huge joke". Cabell, head of Air Force Intelligence at the Pentagon, thought UFOs deserved serious study and pressured for change, especially, after a number of saucers sighted in September, 1951 in the Monmouth, NJ area.

Ruppelt created the term Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs) to provide a more scientific label for study. "The results of this study (which were detailed in Project Blue Book Special Report No. 14) [pictured]...Twenty-two percent of all [3200] reports were listed as "unknown." Strangely enough, the better the information that was available about a case, the more likely it was to be placed in the unknown category. This is exactly the opposite of what the skeptics had expected."

In 1952, the Washington DC UFO sightings resulted in the Robertson Panel.  The committee concluded, "the only threat to national security posed by UFOs, the panel concluded, was that the many erroneous reports coming in from the public might overwhelm the Pentagon's communication channels...For this reason the panel recommended that the government start a public relations campaign designed to 'debunk' UFOs and remove the 'aura of mystery' from them to reduce public interest." A disappointed Ruppelt left Project Blue Book in 1953 as a result of the committee's debunking recommendation.

Project Blue Book lingered on and saw only brief periods of serious investigation in subsequent years after Ruppelt's departure. The 1966 Condon Report, headed by physicist Edward U Condon, recommended Blue Book be shut down. The project was terminated in 1969.  UFOs were, according to Project Blue Book's official conclusions, either result of misidentifying a known object, a form of mass hysteria, deranged individuals and hoaxes. Kerry Cassidy interviews Dutchsinse on Project Camelot. Dutchsinse aka Michael Janich relates how he began following HAARP rings and scalar squares on radar screens.  Janich noticed anomalies in January of this year, at the time, of the birds falling from sky in Arkansas. Janich became a full time student after the bird die off and saw clearly in March the trouble in store for Japan. Dutchsinse has a multitude of detractors, but anyone can learn something about weather manipulation from Dutchsinse videos. The interview reveals, also, Dutch's theory about Fukushima nuclear fallout.  The nuclear material will decay into Barium and Strontium, which provides medium for an apparent Project Blue Beam fake alien invasion!

internet buzz: doubts about darpa falcon htv-2 crash

Did the joint DARPA and US Air Force-backed  HTV-2 (HyperTechnologyVehicle-2), crash into the Pacific as widely reported? Brooks Agnew interviewed Kevin Smith on X-squared radio recently. Smith suggests only telemetry was lost after nine minutes, switching to a secure channel to send a message. The test flight demonstrates, in Smith's opinion, a vehicle capable of Mach 20 (13,000 mph) or 3.5 to 4 miles per second, which implies an ability to strike anywhere on Earth in about an hour! DARPA shut down the show once sufficient global strike capacity was demonstrated to the world, according to Smith. The host of the Kevin Smith Show believes the hypersonic plane is capable of much higher speeds! Alex Jones suggests during a recent interview with Bob Bowman, the HTV-2 is reported lost to make opportunities for launches. Jones sees a possible deception to allow placing more weapons platforms into space. Jones points out "reported top speed" is not necessarily real speed!

Freeman interviews Carolyn Rose Goyda, a former McDonnell Douglas employee, who also harbors doubts about HTV-2 test flight and problems. The computer scientist and engineer states, from experience, hypersonic flight shouldn't be a technical challenge. Goyda sees only reason for flights, she could think of, would be to test new composites? One oddity, Goyda finds strange, is announcement of launch through Twitter! "DARPA doesn't do that!" Is it feigned ineptitude to provide cover for ruthless war preparation?

listening to the sun improves sunspot forecasts

from latimes: Sunspots, those dark regions on the surface of the sun whose high magnetic activity has ripple effects for Earthlings, seem to emerge and fade without warning. But now, by listening to the sounds the sun makes, scientists have managed to predict when a sunspot will appear up to two days beforehand. The findings, published in Friday's edition of the journal Science, could help solar physicists understand how to better predict solar flares and other space weather events that can harm astronauts and damage power and electronics systems on Earth.

The present writer isn't convinced to make either a BA330 or a SS2 booking, preferring to book into the Space Hotel !

jacques vallee: pentacle memorandum and project stork

An article by Philip Coppens, "A Missing Pentacle," delves into government's role as gatekeeper. Computer scientist and astronomer, Jacques Vallee discovered in 1967 a secret memorandum, while attempting to organize the UFO files of Dr J Allen Hynek. The two-page memo, dated January 9,1953 and stamped "SECRET," led Vallee to an unsavory conclusion. The US Government used UFO sightings as a tool of psychological warfare. The Pentacle Memorandum, as it became known, was a nickname used by Vallee for the memo's author. A Battelle Memorial Institute memo written by Dr Howard C Cross, was addressed to Miles Goll at Wright Patterson AFB in Ohio. What Vallee found was a reference to screening of, "...what can and what cannot be discussed at the meeting in Washington on January 14-16 concerning our preliminary recommendation to ATIC". The meeting was the Robertson Panel organized in response to numerous UFO sightings in the Washington DC area.

Project Stork seemed to Vallee to be, "...a key determinant in what the panel could discuss – and what not, i.e. what would be kept away from the panel. By preselecting the evidence, the conclusion the scientists would reach could thus be known in advance." Vallee brought the memo to Hynek's attention, who was rebuffed, when he asked Cross for an explanation. "Though the memo never received the impact Vallee thought it would have from a public point of view, the memo did have an important effect on both Hynek and Vallee; both realised that they had been pawns in a game which they never were able to control, if only because both were too timid to shout “conspiracy” from the rooftops."  Vallee said it was main reason he returned to Europe in 1967, he related, "it had shattered his innocence". 

The US Government role as a gatekeeper of knowledge allowed to reach the public, and literally, shape the public's reality is evident. Vallee was disillusioned with knowledge waves of UFO sightings were created and managed. You may want to read a previous post, "weapons of mass deception," if you're wondering why? A voice inside your head may be saying, "I Want to Believe"in UFOs and extraterrestrials, but it's somewhat like finding out Santa Claus doesn't exist!

martian moon phobos discovered august 17, 1877

Astronomer Asaph Hall discovered a "dim star" while observing Mars through a 26 inch refractor telescope at the US Naval Observatory, the largest telescope at that time. Hall had already discovered Deimos, the smaller Martian moon on August 11th. You can read more in a Universe Today article, "Finding Phobos: Discovery of a Martian Moon".

darpa shells out $21m for ibm cat brain chip

from the register: The US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency is moving ahead with IBM in the third leg of its Synapse cat brain chip. That leaves one more leg, a tail, and nine lives to go. Because this is the military, the third leg of the Systems of Neuromorphic Adaptive Plastic Scalable Electronics (Synapse) project at DARPA is called phase 2, and IBM's techies have already completed phases 0 and 1. The initial phase of the project simulated the cortex of a cat brain on an IBM BlueGene massively parallel supercomputer with 147,456 cores and 144TB of memory and developing the basic synaptic circuits for the brain chip.

"Working with STEREO scientists, Semiconductor collected all the HI image data to date, revealing the journey of the satellites from their initial orientation, to their current tracing of the Earth's orbit around the Sun. Solar wind, CME's, passing planets and comets orbiting the sun can be seen as background stars and the milky way pass by..." This little film is an experience of space's stark reality, impresses in same style of Kubrick's "2001: A Space Odyssey". Black Rain is both awesome and entertaining!

"Motorola Mobility's total commitment to Android has created a natural fit for our two companies," said Google CEO Larry Page in a prepared statement posted to the company blog. "Together, we will create amazing user experiences that supercharge the entire Android ecosystem for the benefit of consumers, partners and developers." The deal will need to get past regulators, given it significantly overshadows Google's largest deal to date -- their 2008 acquisition of DoubleClick for $3.2 billion. A Minataur IV rocket placed the DARPA Hypersonic Test Vehicle 2 in proper trajectory but the plane capable of Mach 20 [13,000 mph] could not be controlled, plummeting early Thursday into Pacific Ocean as reported by The Independent. The cost of the vehicle is estimated on the net anywhere from 240-320 million and you thought gas was expensive? The present writer can't say it's a disappointment, the vehicle is intended to provide a quick 'global strike' capability.

a new theory of everything: phase space

Move over Einstein, a new theory of everything called phase space, is covered in a recent NewScientist article. "So what is phase space? "It is a curious eight-dimensional world that merges our familiar four dimensions of space and time and a four-dimensional world called momentum space. Momentum space isn't as alien as it first sounds. When you look at the world around you, says [Lee] Smolin [at the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada], you don't ever observe space or time - instead you see energy and momentum...'If you go by what we observe, we don't live in space-time,' Smolin says. 'We live in momentum space.'"

"And just as space-time can be pictured as a coordinate system with time on one axis and space - its three dimensions condensed to one - on the other axis, the same is true of momentum space. In this case energy is on one axis and momentum - which, like space, has three components - is on the other (see diagram)." You may use phase space in your theoretical discussions, until the next theory of everything in vogue comes along!

perseid meteor showers 2011

Perseid meteors can still be viewed, albeit at a reduced rate, if you missed the peak of Aug 12-13. There are fine images of showers posted online here. It is hard to beat an image of meteor showers over Stonehenge (pictured)! These images are candy for the eyes.

area 51 declassified: u-2 and oxcart (a-12) programs

In 1955, Lockheed Skunkworks selected Groom Lake aka Area 51, the name provided by a grid map, as an ideal location for testing of u-2 high altitude spy plane as it came off the drawing boards. The dried lakebed made an ideal airstrip and its remote location surrounded by the Nevada Test Site, would help prevent spying. National Geographic provides a good overview in "Area 51 Declassified," of early days there, which can be appreciated by anyone old enough to realize how long the facility remained unknown.

"In only three months a 5,000-foot...runway was constructed and was serviceable by July 1955. The Ranch [Area 51] received its first U-2 delivery on 24 July 1955 from Burbank on a C-124 Globemaster II cargo plane, accompanied by Lockheed technicians on a Douglas DC-3 The first U-2 lifted off from Groom on 4 August 1955. A U-2 fleet under the control of the CIA began overflights of Soviet territory by mid-1956," according to Wikipedia.

In 1960, the A-12 designed to replace the U-2 also known by code name OXCART, required significant expansion to the facility. A longer airstrip and new hangars were built to accomodate the first stealth plane. "The first OXCART was covertly trucked to the base in February 1962, assembled, and it made its first flight 26 April 1962...The A-12 would remain at Groom Lake until 1968 and occasionally deployed to other United States bases overseas. The SR-71 Blackbird, by contrast, first flew at Palmdale, California in December 1964, and Palmdale and Edwards AFB served as the primary operation sites for that model until Beale Air Force Base became active in early 1966." according to Wikipedia's Groom Lake entry, again.

One criticism of National Geographic's hour long documentary, is, it's little more than a collection of "old codgers" who are boring to watch. The present writer believes information on U-2 and A-12 programs in early days of Area 51, outweighs its shortcomings and well worth anyone's time.

The micro-electronics technology, called an epidermal electronic system (EES), was developed by an international team of researchers from the United States, China and Singapore, and is described in the journal Science. "It's a technology that blurs the distinction between electronics and biology," said co-author John Rogers, a professor in materials science and engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. "Our goal was to develop an electronic technology that could integrate with the skin in a way that is mechanically and physiologically invisible to the user."

spitzer space scope provides galactic traffic report

The Spitzer Space Telescope sees in the infrared spectrum and provides more information about galaxies, otherwise, obscured by dust and gases. The Spitzer scope reveals a hole in the Andromeda galaxy, presented in an excellent video at The Daily Galaxy. Astronomers believe the hole is the result of a collision with dwarf galaxy M32, estimated to have occurred 200 million years ago. The traffic outlook, in this part of the Universe, expect a collision between Andromeda and the Milky Way in 3 Billion years. Don't you like those numbers? nasa's solar dynamics observatory guide to solar flares

Are you trying to get a handle on how big a X-Class flare is really? You can get up to speed in less than three and a half minutes with the NASA SDO Guide to Solar Flares on You Tube. The Guide presents classes B, C, M and X, each class 10X more powerful than the previous one. There is also a 1-9 rating scale within each class. The only classes considered a danger, are the M and X-Classes. M-Class are only a threat to astronauts in space, or possibly, cause a blackout at the poles, says the Guide. The X6.9 flare on Tuesday as reported below may seem strong, but consider a November 4, 2003 flare during the last Solar Max rated X45 for perspective. The Guide informs a solar flare results, when electromagnetic fields reconnect on the Sun's surface (pictured). "The solar cycle takes an average of about 12 year cycle to go from one solar maximum to the next with an observed variation in duration of 9 to 14 years for any given solar cycle," according to Wikipedia. A single question lingers, why didn't we hear more about the X45 in 2003? Why the obsession this time around?

from redorbit: NASA said on Tuesday that the sun unleashed the biggest solar flare in four years. The NOAA GOES satellite measured an X6.9 flare on August 9, 2011 at 3:48 a.m. EDT The bursts of radiation cannot pass through Earth's atmosphere to harm humans on the ground, but it can disrupt GPS and communications signal, according to NASA. "It was a big flare," Joe Kunches, a space scientist with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)'s Space Weather Prediction Center told CBS News. "We lucked out because the site of the eruption at the sun was not facing the Earth, so we will probably feel no ill effects." The space agency said it could produce enough increased solar energetic proton radiation to affect humans in space if they do not protect themselves. There was also a coronal mass ejection (CME) associated with the flare. CMEs, according to NASA, are another solar phenomenon that can send solar particles into space and affect electronic systems in salutes and on Earth. However, the space agency said the CME is not traveling is not toward Earth so no effects are expected from it.

power companies prepare as solar storms set to hit earth

(Reuters) - Three large explosions from the Sun over the past few days have prompted U.S. government scientists to caution users of satellite, telecommunications and electric equipment to prepare for possible disruptions over the next few days. "The magnetic storm that is soon to develop probably will be in the moderate to strong level," said Joseph Kunches, a space weather scientist at the Space Weather Prediction Center, a division of the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). He said solar storms this week could affect communications and global positioning system (GPS) satellites and might even produce an aurora visible as far south as Minnesota and Wisconsin.

The August 3rd M-6 class solar flare (video) resulted in Auroras seen as far south in Northern Europe as Germany and Denmark. A BBC News Science article, "Why have the Northern Lights moved south?" explains Northern Lights phenomenon. "The huge ejection of charged particles from the Sun on 3 August disconnected more of the Earth’s magnetic field lines and when these snapped back to Earth the resulting auroras were visible much further south than usual." forrestal and bush paid price for keeping ufos top secret

In one of the best articles on the post WWII UFO coverup, Australian writer Tony Brunt delivers the goods in "Price of Deceit". Brunt writes, "for those on the inside of the cover-up, with exposure to the shocking reality of alien cadavers and incomprehensi- ble space-age componentry, the effect may well have been profoundly disorienting." The new Secretary of Defense James Forrestal and military science and technology chief Vannevar Bush were confronted with a novel crisis. Forrestal, a 55 years old investment banker, "...two weeks after the [Roswell] crash recovery...'with the pending approval of James Forrestal as new Secretary of Defense, it is certain that he will be briefed on certain aspects of the recovery.' Forrestal took office on 17 September and within a week had well and truly entered the twilight zone"

The Aztec, NM crash followed in March, 1948. On July 7, 1948, there was another UFO recovery just across the border from Laredo, TX. The US Military bluffed Mexico that it was a rocket gone off course that crashed in Nueva Leon, Mexico. By 1948, Forrestal's house butler noticed the Secretary would peek from behind the curtains, whenever the doorbell rang. Forrestal was convinced he was followed and his phone tapped.

Forrestal's mental state reached the top of Washington gossip list, and with Truman's election victory in 1948, he was eased out. The breaking point was, after farewell speeches on March 29th, Air Force Secretary Stuart Symington requested to ride back to the Pentagon with the departing Defense Secretary, because, he needed to discuss a matter. Afterwards, Forrestal was seen at the Pentagon staring at walls, and by nightfall, speaking of suicide. In just a few days, Forrestal was admitted to Bethesda Hospital, and seven weeks later, "commited suicide" by jumping from the 16th floor. Forrestal's suicide remains, perhaps, the most suspicious in US history.

Vannevar Bush also suffered symptoms, thinking he had a brain tumor or Parkinson's disease. In an attempt to regain his mental health Bush went on a camping trip with friends, who found him staring at the fire like the doomed Forrestal. Bush had a better home life, Brunt relates, but the fate of Forrestal, may have proved a greater motivation to get a grip on himself?

Brunt writes about Forrest and Bush in the second section, "The Strain Starts to Show," of Part Two in a series. The first secton is just as compelling with conclusion provided by Sergei Korolev, a top Soviet engineer to Joseph Stalin, when asked to review UFO documents by the Premier. It's a must read for anyone who wants a clear history of a pivotal post-WWII period.

chiles-whitted ufo encounter: june 24, 1948

In the early morning hours of June 24, 1948, two Eastern Airlines pilots Clarence Chiles and John Whitted, flying a commercial route from Mobile to Montgomery, AL, narrowly escaped collision with a cigar-shaped UFO. An article, "5 UFO Sightings That Even Non-Crazy People Find Creepy,". provides details of the WWII-era encounter, both pilots, made similar drawings (Chiles drawing pictured), "they had seen the object for about 10 to 15 seconds. Both men described the object as cigar- or torpedo-shaped, about 100 feet in length, and about three times the diameter of a B-29 bomber. The "fuselage" was entirely smooth, with no wings, projections or fins. A bright red-orange exhaust was emanating from the object's rear, and was more orange at the outer edges of the exhaust, but grew redder when it rose in altitude. The exhaust extended approximately 30 to 50 feet behind the object. They heard no sound from the object as it sped past the DC-3." Chiles steered the plane hard to the left, in order, to miss the UFO 700 feet on their right, the plane then hit turbulence as Chiles looked back to see the UFO pull up in a steep climb. A passenger, one of few awake at 2:45 am, also witnessed the UFO. An almost identical UFO had also been reported a month earlier in the Netherlands.

A Wikipedia entry refers to the Chiles-Whitted encounter as an important sighting, "...for several reasons...perhaps the first that occurred at close distance...reported by two very experienced pilots, Clarence Chiles and John Whitted. Both pilots had been decorated for their service as airmen during World War II, and...regarded as valuable, respectable employees of Eastern Airlines. Chiles, in particular, was highly esteemed by his peers and by his employer."

The Chiles-Whitted Encounter is considered a classic and made UFO sightings more credible. The Air Force first dismissed the sighting as a "weather balloon" and then "a meteor", but the credibility of the witnesses proved too much to just write this one off!

The Comet Elenin mystery continues to be a story that keeps on giving! A swirling controversy and veritable cottage industry has grown from the name, Elenin. It's suggested ELENIN is an acronym that stands for Extinction Level Event Notable Impact Nemesis (ELENIN). A recent CNN article, "Comet ELENIN, Earthquakes and You," adds to the bizarre festival flavor of the spectacle, "Nov 9, 2011 the earth will supposedly cross the threshold of the debris tail of ELENIN on the same plain (assuming ELENIN is a real object that would be catastrophic)." The article recaps aspects such as the NASA warning to employees and underground bases at Denver International Airport. The recap is comprehensive yet seems odd due to the source? It's surfaced elsewhere that Elenin is code for 11-9, when Earth will be passing through the comet's tail. The date has also been chosen by FEMA to take over all broadcast facilities in an emergency test . For the conspiracy minded, illuminati number games invert it to read 9-11, which is the date Comet Elenin is closest to the Sun! Is it the case the truth is out there if only you have the eyes to see?

A coming attraction to your night sky in the northern hemisphere are Perseids. "The stream of debris is called the Perseid cloud and stretches along the orbit of the comet Swift-Tuttle. The cloud consists of particles ejected by the comet as it travels on its 130-year orbit. Most of the dust in the cloud today is around a thousand years old. However, there is also a relatively young filament of dust in the stream that was pulled off the comet in 1862." A Universe Today article, 'MeteorWatch is Coming! Look for Perseids With the Rest of the World," trumpets the meteorites which peak at 50-60 per hour in the predawn hours of Aug 12-13.
